As part of a full- or part-time degree programme at IU International University of Applied Sciences, you will have to incur a number of costs - from tuition fees to the purchase of work materials. So you can spend more time in the lecture hall instead of working a part-time job, you can also rely on federal and state funding or student loans if necessary. In addition to BAföG and child benefits, this also includes financial assistance in the form of a KfW student loan or other student loans. You haven't lived at home for a long time and have to pay the monthly rent for your own four walls? If your 25th birthday is still a long way off, you or your parents are legally entitled to child benefits. That’s 255 euros per month. If you are older but have done military or civilian service, your entitlement is extended by the length of time you have served.
If you lack the financial means for studying at IU, the state provides you with a financial basis for a carefree start to your professional future through the Bundesausbildungsförderungsgesetz (BAföG). The actual amount of grants and interest-free loans depends primarily on your individual circumstances and takes into account your parents’ financial situation. Almost one out of two students is entitled to BAföG. If you meet the necessary requirements, you can benefit from up to 992 euros (as of semester 2022/2023) per month.
If you are a temporary soldier in the Federal Armed Forces (Bundeswehr) and want to study at IU, you can apply for financial assistance. BFD funding is available to you both during your entire period of service and for up to seven years afterwards.
If you are not entitled to child benefits or BAföG and have not been awarded a scholarship, you may be eligible for a low-interest student loan from KfW Förderbank to finance your studies at IU. This loan is granted regardless of your own income or that of your parents and can also be combined with other state subsidies to close any financial gaps.
In contrast to KfW Bildungskredit student loans, with a KfW Studienkredit student loan you can also finance your entire first and second degree education with a low-interest instalment loan. Regardless of whether you are a first-year student or a student in a higher semester. KfW Studienkredit student loans are granted far more frequently than KfW Bildungskredit student loans, as the interest rates and the maximum loan amount are significantly higher. You can adjust the amount of the monthly financial injection to suit your personal needs.
You are extremely talented, have already successfully completed your vocational training and are under 25 years old? With the continuing education scholarship, you can have both specialised and interdisciplinary continuing education as well as part-time studies at IU subsidised by the Federal Ministry of Education. The funding covers a total of 8,100 euros, spread over three years of funding.
As an alternative to a student loan, you can also finance your studies through a study fund, e.g. from Deutsche Bildung AG. In this way, you can receive monthly payments and/or one-off payments for your study plans at home and abroad and pay them back later depending on your income.
In addition to state funding, there are also various scholarships available to you as an alternative to finance your entire studies at IU provided you are highly talented or have a particularly inspiring background. If at least one of these points applies to you, then you can choose to apply for an IU scholarship, a Deutschlandstipendium or another funding programme from non-profit foundations.
