Good news: IU deliberately does not have a numerus clausus (NC). You won’t have to go through a strenuous selection process or have waiting semesters credited to you, because none of our degree programmes have an NC. We prefer to talk to you personally and find out together where your talents and strengths lie and, above all, what goals you want to pursue with your studies.
You can study Applied Psychology at our Virtual Campus, which allows you to study anywhere in Germany.
Yes, this is possible at IU. In addition to the entrance qualification in the form of an Abitur or Fachabitur, interested students without an Abitur also have the opportunity to enter our Bachelor's programme. You can study Applied Psychology without an Abitur or a high school diploma if you have a master craftsman's certificate, have completed a further education course (such as an IHK Fachwirt) or have at least two years of vocational training and at least three years of subsequent work experience.
The Bachelor of Applied Psychology has a duration of 36, 48 or 72 months, depending on which time model you choose. If you need more time and more semesters for your studies, it will not be a problem.
The Applied Psychology programme focuses on practical, application-oriented psychology early on during the Bachelor's degree. It's about acquiring psychological knowledge for a specific industry so that you can directly apply your specialised knowledge about people's behaviour and experience there. Depending on where you want to go later and what professional goal you are pursuing, you will set your focus early on and orient yourself within your studies, e.g. towards the media industry or healthcare.

A degree opens many doors for you and creates opportunities for more growth and freedom in your future. You will have more career options and you will move up the career ladder much faster because you will be taught certain key skills that will be incredibly helpful in your specific field. In addition, some companies prefer academics for higher positions.
Regarding lifelong learning, you’ll invest above all in yourself and your professional skills in the future. Also, studying is fun – especially when, like at IU, education takes place the way you want it to.
The Applied Psychology degree programme will teach you the fundamental basics of psychology. In addition to work-related and organisational psychology, this also includes psychological research and practice. In contrast to a classic degree programme, the focus is on practical application and industry specialisation. Accordingly, you will dive deeper into behavioural and evolutionary research as well as into the areas of counselling, communication, conflict management, intercultural psychology and positive psychology. This will allow you to work in a wide variety of settings later on.
Especially in the digital age, the psychological factor is becoming more and more important. It’s good if there are professionals like you who analyse human behaviour in detail to make working and everyday life better. Whether in the healthcare sector, in the world of communication and media or in business – with a Bachelor of Applied Psychology, you will be broadly positioned and will be able to put your knowledge in psychology directly into practice after graduating; for example, in business, advertising or the media. There, your knowledge of psychological behaviour will be used for employee selection or customer acquisition.
